Your belongings are important to you, obviously, and Chenal 10 helps keep them safe and secure when you’re between spaces or have simply run out of room. Since you’ll probably want to get them out eventually, we’ve compiled a list of tips to make it easier when you’re ready.
Specific Labels
Label everything clearly (aside from the furniture, of course). Most people label things when moving anyway, but they aren’t always labeled clearly. It’s not enough to simply label a box “Kitchen Items”. What kinds of items are you putting in the box? Where do you plan to keep them when you store them in your new home? You might have kitchen utensils you want to keep on the counter, and then have kitchen utensils to keep in the drawer. You might have plates you display behind glass versus plates to just keep in your cupboards. Keep these things in mind when labeling boxes, as it makes it much easier to pull the items back out and place into a specifically designated area in your future home.
BONUS: Color code your boxes with colored labels or differently colored duct tapes to signify which room in your home the boxes are going.
Everyday Items
Think about the items you use on a daily basis. Note that you may not want to pack these items away, but if you have to, keep them separate from your other items and make sure they’re easily accessible. You won’t want to have to go back and dig out your favorite coffee machine when you need it.
Junk/Unused Items
Think about whether or not you use certain items and how often you use them. If you haven’t used an item in a while (or at all), consider letting go of it. You can sell certain items through a garage sale or flea market, or you could sell them online through websites like eBay and Etsy, or through mobile apps like VarageSale, LetGo, OfferUp and Depop. Also, consider giving away items to friends and family or donating items to thrift stores or charities. The less junk you have, the less moving truck space or storage space you’ll need to use or pay for.
Storage Space & Moving Truck Space
Make sure you have enough space for the items you’ll store away, as well as enough space on the moving truck. It should be easier to determine the amount of space needed once your items are packed and boxed up. You can always call the storage facility and moving company to get an estimate of how much space you’ll need for moving and storage purposes.
At the end of the day, moving can be a stressful enough process to go through, but the steps above will prevent you from making it more stressful than it needs to be.
